Casino Tournaments and Leaderboards: Reading the Mechanics

Prize pools funded by turnover reward the highest-staking players, not the luckiest.

Slot tournaments rank players by a scoring metric over a period, then split a prize pool among the top positions.

The scoring metric defines everything. Ranking by total win rewards raw stake volume. Ranking by highest multiplier on a single spin is closer to a lottery. Ranking by points per qualifying spin at a minimum stake sets an entry cost.

Prize distribution matters equally: a pool concentrated in the top three positions is effectively unavailable to most entrants, while a flat distribution across hundreds of places pays small amounts widely.

Since prize pools are funded from the operator's margin on tournament turnover, participation is only rational if you would have played the same amount anyway. Increasing stakes to chase a leaderboard position reliably costs more than the prize is worth.
