Do Casino Loyalty Schemes Have Real Value?
Points-to-cash conversion, tier decay and locked rewards decide whether a scheme is worth anything.
Loyalty schemes convert wagering into points, and points into rewards. Whether that is worth anything depends on three numbers the marketing rarely leads with.
The conversion rate: how much turnover produces how much redeemable value. Expressed as a percentage of stakes, most schemes return a fraction of a percent, which does not offset the house edge.
Tier decay: how quickly status expires without continued play. Aggressive decay turns a reward into a treadmill.
Reward form: cash with no conditions is worth face value; bonus funds with wagering are worth much less; free spins on a low-value game with winnings capped are worth least.
Calculate the effective return before letting a scheme influence where you play. In most cases it should not.
