Why Accumulators Carry So Much Margin

Each leg multiplies the overround, which is why parlays are the most profitable product on the board.

An accumulator combines several selections, and the returns multiply. So does the bookmaker's margin.

If each leg carries roughly 5% margin, a four-fold does not carry 5% — the margins compound, so the effective margin on the combined bet is substantially higher. The more legs, the worse the expected return.

This is precisely why accumulators are marketed heavily, why "acca insurance" promotions exist, and why bonus offers cluster around multi-leg bets.

The appeal is the payout distribution: small stake, large potential return, high probability of losing. That is a preference, not an edge, and it should be priced as entertainment rather than strategy.
